Of last year's income, 41 billion 61 million 408 thousand dollars were related to personal expenses and 13 billion 254 million 134 thousand dollars were related to expenses spent with tour packages.
The number of visitors leaving Turkey in 2023 compared to the previous year increased by 11.1% to 57 million 77 thousand 440 people. 13.5 percent of this number, equivalent to 7 million 730 thousand 473 people, were Turkish nationals living abroad.
Last year, tourism expenses increased by 65.3% compared to the previous year and reached 7 billion 68 million 901 thousand dollars.
Based on this, Turkey's tourism income in the fourth quarter of last year reached 12 billion 272 million 673 thousand dollars with a growth of 6.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
15.2% of the tourism income was obtained from citizens living abroad who traveled to Turkey.
Most visitors come to Türkiye for "travelling, recreation, sports and cultural activities".
The Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkey also announced that Turkey showed the best performance of all periods in tourism in 2023.
Mehmet Şimşek, the Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkey, in his assessment of the tourism statistics of 2023, said on his social media account: We have shown the best performance of all periods in tourism in 2023.
Pointing to the positive trend of the data, Shimshek added: the number of visitors from Turkey reached 57.1 million people with an annual increase of 11.1% and exceeded the target of 56.7 million people at the end of the year.
He stated: According to the mid-term plan, we expect that by continuing this trend, the number of visitors will increase to 59.4 million people and tourism income will increase to 59.6 billion dollars this year.
He stated: Our goal for 2028 is to reach 100 billion dollars in tourism revenue with 82.3 million visitors.
